5. Executive Officers Reports:
a. Chair – Cliff Ball:
Going well and Paul Escott (treasurer) has settled into this key post. MS to finish League Secretary at the end of this season. CB has suggested the post is rotated.
b. Vice Chair – Richard Morten. No report.
c. Secretary – Paul Rainey. No report.
d. Treasurer – Paul Escott
i. £3905 in main account. £123 cash.
ii. Suggestions for money: taster sessions were suggested. Coaching and referee course subsidies are ongoing. Match ball suggested by CB but meeting felt it was not necessary for established clubs.
iii. No outstanding fees.
iv. Treasurer out of the country frequently but should be able to collect emails. Chair to hold two cheques for emergencies.
e. Club Welfare – Jenny Boorman
No issues to report. RM advised that VE Safe Guarding policy prohibits one on one electronic communications with juniors. This includes text, emails and FB messaging.
f. WVA League – Matt Stevens
i. The web site still not running as required. MS needs to update each individual player record which isn’t practical but can change match dates so that all players were registered prior to the match. Alternatives were discussed. Suggestion to approach Web Master for other privileges to ease task (for a fee).
ii. Fixtures to be added to web page with a later date than actually played to enable the web site to be updated approved by meeting. MS.
iii. Current league positions unknown but should be available when the web site is updated.
iv. League playoffs date to be arranged by MS.
v. Time keeping for matches must be efficient to ensure double headers do not overrun.
vi. Due to web site difficulties clubs will be given an amnesty if an unregistered player has played more than one match. Only the first match will be forfeited.
g. Ladies and Juniors – Sarah Newstead
i. All fixture dates are on the WVA site.
ii. First fixture in October successful with 4 teams.
iii. Next fixture and Christmas Cup is on 12th December.
h. Competitions – Tamara Gibson (on behalf of Salisbury)
i. Chairman very pleased with Pre-season tournament teams and organisation. Thanks to JP. Teams should not leave early if they have refereeing responsibilities.
ii. Dave Kinder Cup. First round to be played by end of December. Date to be set for the final.
iii. End of Season. Organisation ongoing. CB planning to run the Presentation Evening separately from the EoS Tournament.
i. Junior Development – Neil Bentley
i. Has not yet organised an U15 team for the National Championships or any junior tournaments within the county. Approaches to schools about running a schools tournament appears to have fallen on deaf ears.
ii. MS. 3 Devizes boys, playing for Exeter Storm, have qualified for the 2nd round.
j. Outdoor Development – Steve Grimes
i. No final played in September but will try to expand next summer season.
k. Mavericks Men’s & Ladies
i. NVL – John Dowell: Mavericks training every other Tuesday, cost £5.00. All clubs welcome to train. Currently lower mid table.
ii. Bath Wiltshire Mavericks Ladies – Matt Stevens: Played 5 won 1, lost 4. Steep learning curve, good numbers at training. No sponsorship available yet.
iii. SW Mens. No team but seems to be some interest within the county. Needs an organiser for next season.
iv. SW Ladies (Mavericks Ladies): 16 registered players, difficult to manage. Decided not to take more than 9 players to a match. Played 3 triangular matches, won 3 lost 3.
v. SW Ladies (RWC Ladies) Team playing and meeting fixtures.
6. WVA Club Summary Reports:
a. Calne Comets – trains on Friday with 16 or more players. Juniors at least 12. Two teams in league which is disappointing but will hopefully reconsider next season. New shirts with sponsor, WithStyles, a local sportswear shop.
b. Royal Wootton Bassett – split training sessions between ladies and men due to net height with occasional mixed sessions. Juniors sessions with about 6.
c. Olympiad – can’t comment on A team. B Team have one two, lost two. Training sessions getting between 10 and 15 with players coming from Swindon and Tidworth as well as locally.
d. Devizes – training split between Tuesday and Thursday, mainly juniors on Thursdays. Matches going well, lost one match. After-school club has 20 members. New kit on order.
e. Salisbury – ladies and juniors train on Thursdays, new players coming through. Men train later in evening. Chased VE and are about to set up a satellite club with two local schools. Tamara and John P leading. WASP also supporting. Salisbury are also playing in the Hampshire league.
f. Swinton – No report.
g. Erlestoke – We have a strong interest in the jail at the present time, we are coaching the squad twice a week as well as additional one on one training with keen beginners. Carly Lane has been coming in to coach the squad and entertaining the prisoners with her colourful vocabulary! Our interest is such that we are considering [if we get promoted] entering [if allowed] an additional B team for next season, this would also get other staff from the jail involved allowing us to actually attend meetings! We are also looking for friendly matches on Sunday afternoons 1230-1600.
7. AOB:
a. Some clubs would urgently would like a junior tournament (MS).
b. PE asked about any expenses. Only Pre-season and meeting food were outstanding.
8. Date of Next WVA Meeting: Tuesday 1 March 2015 19:00.
Venue: Calne Leisure Centre or Matt Stevens / Sarah Newstead
